Gotta Love These Market Pullbacks!

January 29th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Buy low, sell high. That’s the ticket, isn’t it? Well, if it is, and who’s to argue with a little-known voice on the Internet, then today is a happy day.
A nifty crushing blow hit the market and I just stood back and watched the carnage. I was in an out of Hartford, and left well [...]

Runaway Trader’s Last Week in San Miguel

January 25th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

The sun is just rising over El Centro in San Miguel as I write this piece. It’s still cool, in the low 40s, but within an hour or two, it will climb into the 70s and low 80s, and I’ll be out trekking the hills in shorts and Ts.
The city, with its historic churches, libraries, [...]

Hey Obama! Do Something for this Rotten Stock Market!

January 20th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Out of the corner of my Slingbox, I watched the presidential inauguration today but frankly, I was far more interested in watching and hoping the indexes would turn green.
It’s been so long since I’ve seen green that were it not for the brilliant foliage out my San Miguel window, I would have forgotten what it [...]

My Whole Board is Bleeding Red—Except FSLR

January 15th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

Not to sound like a broken record, but with blood flowing through the streets where I’ve been trading, the only verdant sight I see is First Solar, up around $4 as I write this.
If the indexes were green, FSLR would be up 15 points, like I predicted yesterday.

Looking Elsewhere for Fun; It’s Not in the Stock Market

January 14th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Another terrific day for stock market shorts, but I ignored the whole thing and played the role of a gawking San Miguel turista. There was little else I could do since I got hammered by The Hartford and decided to wait until the market returns before I jump in again.
Actually it’s hard to concentrate on [...]

Which is Worse: Minnesota Weather or this Stock Market?

January 13th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

They’re both pretty crappy and that means your Runaway Trader has a mixed ditty bag. First, the weather.
Since my Slingbox keeps tabs on the TV channels back home, I note that Minneapolis is enjoying a brisk morning with temperatures touching -20 below zero. But that’s alright since the folks in Woebegon are a hardy lot, [...]

Runaway Trader May Take an Early Weekend

January 8th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

Not just because I want to spend more time wandering San Miguel, but because I expect tomorrow’s market to be washout. In fact, I’m guessing you could short most anything sometime today and be better off at the close tomorrow.
Why so pessimistic?
Maybe it’s because I don’t want to keep my peepers glued to the laptop [...]

Disney Parks Renamed for Charlie Wetherall

You didn’t know the Runaway Trader was a big deal, did you? Well, looka here. I’m gonna tell you how hot I really am.
A meme, in case you’ve been leading a sheltered Internet life, is a neologism used to describe a catchphrase or concept that spreads quickly from person to person via the Net. And [...]

Just What Day Traders Needed—A Sharp Pullback

January 7th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

OK gang. This is the pullback we’ve been looking for. After all, the market has been bouncing along very nicely for a couple of weeks. This retreat will knock some sense into those foolhardy traders who think it’s all up from here.
More important, it gives us “in-and-out” guys a nice entry point. I’m not saying [...]

I’m Still Not Warm Yet

January 7th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

The market has been open for over three hours and I’m still cold—both my trades and my body.
First, my body.
Not surprisingly, when you’re nestled in a water-carved arroyo in the Mexico mountains, it gets cool at night—even in summer. This morning it was chilly, somewhere around 35 degrees. And when the bells of Parroquia wake [...]
